Hinge maintenance

General recommendations

Lubrication

Krona Koblenz hinges do not require any maintenance
or lubrication within the time due to their sockets made of self-lubricating and antiwear materials that make space between all possible friction points of the metallic components.

On the picture you can clearly see these details for better understanding.

Therefore, DO NOT lubricate the hinge with a spray or other grease in order to avoid accumulating dust within the time and blocking its fluent movement.

Painting

KronaKoblenz hinges are available in a wide choice of finishes. Any type of painting by the final customer is to be avoided in order not to block the internal mechanisms.

General checks

If the doors require any treatment or maintenance, for example due to architectural adjustments, deformation
of the door leaf because of the climate conditions, the inappropriate use which may happen at schools or airports, for instance, scheduled maintenance of the fire/smoke-resistant doors (according to the standards  in effect), do not neglect the following points:

- Check the frame square.
- Check the perimeter clear opening of the frame and door leaf.
- Check the hinge fixing.
- Make the adjustments if necessary, in case the adjustment instructions are not available, contact Krona Koblenz.
- Check if the vertical and depth adjustments are blocked (if any).
- Make further checks of gaskets, locks or other accessories (according to the manufacturer’s instructions).

Cover removal details

In order to check the hinge it’s necessary to take off the cover caps. You should carefully insert a thin screwdriver under the cover cap and remove it upwards delicately as it may get bended or twisted.

Most of our hinge models have a clear indication of blocking / unblocking and adjustment in order to apply the corresponding screws.

Cleaning

Hinges made of zamak alloy with aluminum cover caps
Use a clean dry cloth to clean the visible parts. Avoid using any solvents, surfactants or abrasive.

Hinges made of stainless steel with stainless steel cover caps
With hinge 316 made of stainless steel you’ve chosen the most solid and resistant one which keeps its elegance within the time and a long product life.

Stainless steel AISI 316 is particularly resistant to corrosion when in an aggressive environment (marine areas, big city centres, or areas with extreme industrial pollution, in the atmosphere rich with chlorine, or areas with high spread of ice-melting salt). However, this noble material needs regular maintenance.

Internal installations for stainless steel hinges require no special maintenance while in outdoor application or in a contact with substances that cause stains or spots, we highly recommend the following:

Clean the visible surface with a specific remedy for steel. If it is a spray, do not apply it directly to the hinge, but use a clean dry cloth. We can suggest you Inox Protector WERA or its equivalent.
After clearing wipe it with a soft paper sheet to remove the rest.
Warning: DO NOT use certain cleaning products with stainless steel: for example, those containing chlorides, in particular hydrochloric acid, bleaches with hypochlorite acid or any other strong acids (i.e those for removing cement-based mortar), cleaning products for silver and abrasive scourers or scrapers.

Please pay a lot of attention to the installation: it is necessary to use the proper utensils that leave no ferrous residues which could incur oxidation afterwards, it is necessary to be very careful to not weld or polish any iron items close to the stainless steel: the sparks could scratch the surface of the stainless steel components and cause rusting. It is important to clean carefully after the installation is completed.
